WHAT’S HAPPENING IN 2012?
Funds raised in 2012 will be applied to initiate a YCO 'bricks & mortar' legacy project in Cambodia.
One that we can, "attach our name to", and allow our donors and supporters the opportunity to visit the youth they assist, and see the changes and outcomes facilitated through their philanthropy!!!
As after 6 years of;
- Dedicated committee work
- Organisation development
- Building firm & transparent relationships with stakeholders both in AUSTRALIA & CAMBODIA
- Provision of technical and education scholarships
- Provision of small start up business loans
- Provision of funds for paediatric surgery & rehabilitation
- Purchase of patient transport vehicles for The Children’s Surgical Centre and Acid Survivors Charity
- Supporting kindergarten feeding programs at the garbage dump
- Arranging student exchange programs
- Facilitating Australian companies donation of dollars and skills into charitable projects
- Direct aid donation of over $150,000
AND fund raising, fund raising, & more fund raising!!!!
It's time we had our ‘own' legacy project in Cambodia
We’ve been offered land on the site of a large orphanage and school project about 15 minutes out of the capital Phnom Penh; where we intend building a small, but strategic, multi education and skills training centre.
This orphanage is, (relatively), world class, evidencing transparency, accountability and best practice management at every level.
They have a well-governed international corporate board, active supporter programs, and encourage donor engagement at every level.
There is a strong focus on academic, social and cultural learning including a strategic program of streaming selected youth into technical training.
Although YesCambodia.org will remain autonomous and operate independently from the orphanage we would like to enhance options and value at the orphanage, where youth may remain on site and receive specialised skills and technical training. And as well, we may, intake-disadvantaged students from out side.
Our aim will be to support the continuing education of children and youth in need of ongoing literacy, technical, employment, and business skills; and which we will provide through training scholarships and food programs.
We assume and plan that our project will take two - three years to develop; the outcome of which, will be, THE 'QUADRANT', technical and commercial learning centre, representing the 4 interest areas of the 4 YCO committee members.
We aim to utilise our particular skill sets and experience, as well as associated networks to develop, nurture, and mentor programs development.
Initial thoughts:
- Donald Hancey ~ Hospitality training and food production
- Jonathan Remta ~ Sports programs development and associated physical treatment therapies
- Glen Bosman ~ Aquaculture and commercial development
- Candice Stanley ~ Small business skills and management training for girls
Our knowledge of Cambodian history and the (current) socioeconomic demographics, allows us to determine there are 1000’s of impoverished, marginalised and orphaned youth who would benefit from the training programs and skills development we envisage supplying. And which are core to youth attaining sustainable livelihoods in the emerging Cambodian economy.
We also aim to have accommodation at the centre for our Australian and international donors who wish to visit Cambodia, to see ‘who, and what’ they are generously supporting.
Anyway, that's the draft plan!!!!
WE HAVE A SUPER - AMAZING – FANTASTIC – YOU WILL SCREAM “YEE HA” WHEN YOU HEAR ABOUT IT ……… FUNDRAISING EVENT PLANNED TO TAKE PLACE IN CAMBODIA IN 2012!!!
WATCH THIS SPACE!!!!!!!!!!!!
Once again, sincere thanks for all the support and assistance you have generously donated in 2011.
Our core mission
The core mission adopted in 2005 and continuing into 2011 is to further consolidate as an incorporated, not for profit body that remains well governed by a diligent and respected Committee of Management who oversee and direct fund raising activities in Australia, and donation applications in Cambodia.
With a focus on children and youth, we seek to directly and tangibly benefit and empower Cambodians who are grossly, socially and economically disadvantaged; including orphaned, homeless, disabled, disfigured, diseased, uneducated and skill limited.
